Surges Of Up To 100 Meteors Per Hour Will Light Up The Louisiana Skies During The 2020 Lyrid Meteor This April
Explore Louisiana's natural wonders, including waterfalls, swamps, and scenic vistas.
Throughout the year, we are blessed with several meteor shows that light up the skies. Probably the most famous meteor shower is the Perseids Meteor Shower, which comes around in the fall, followed by the Geminid Meteor Shower, which stargazers look forward to every winter. One of the most dazzling meteor showers is only a few days away, and you’re going to want to set your alarms. The Lyrid Meteor Shower will take place from April 16-25, 2020, and it’s one of the oldest meteor showers in the world. It was first recorded more than 2,500 years ago, and it’s one you’ll want to mark on your calendars because you might see up to 100 meteors an hour during this fantastic nighttime light show.
From April 16 to the 25th, keep your eyes to the skies. You might just catch a meteor shooting through the sky.
The Lyrid Meteor Shower will peak between April 22-23, giving you the best possible chance to see these meteors.
During its peak, and barring any pesky clouds that would get in the way, you should see up to 10-15 meteors per hour.
This particular meteor shower is known for its bursts, so during peak times, you could see up to 100 meteors an hour!
To get the best views, you’ll want to make sure you get away from city lights and find a nice, quiet, dark spot.
Bring a blanket so you can lie down. Give your eyes time to adjust and sit back, relax, and watch the show.
You'll also want to wait till the sky is at its darkest, which will be just before dawn.
