Over 23,000 acres of amazing swamps are found at the Barataria Preserve.
You'll find it at 6588 Barataria Blvd., Marrero. You can visit from Wednesday - Sunday from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Once inside, you'll be swept away by the beauty and bounty found here.
Jean Lafitte preserve is a unique geological wonder as it includes bayous, swamps, marshes, forests, alligators, and nutrias.
You can stop by the educational center located here that features a self-guided tour or a cell phone tour.
Both will open your eyes to all of the unique areas found here.
You'll enjoy some of the most beautiful Cypress trees anywhere in the swamp.
It's completely gorgeous and offers something really special.
And of course, there are some incredible alligator species that lurk here.
Alligators in the area are definitely a species to be watchful of as you explore.
Spying the barred owl, pictured here, is another special sighting you can expect on a visit here.
Over 200 species of birds call this preserve home.
