The Enchanting Wildlife Refuge In Louisiana Is One Of The Best Places To Enjoy Autumn
It's fall, y'all! Fall is easily my favorite time of the year. Fall in Louisiana is the best time to spend your weekends outdoors, hitting new hiking trails, and enjoying autumn adventures without the skeeters and bugs that take over the trails in the summer. This wildlife refuge in northern Louisiana is a dreamy destination to spend an afternoon exploring, and I think the whole family will love it, even the dog! Let's check it out:
Start your adventure at the Visitor Center so you can learn about the flora and fauna you'll see here.
There are plenty of exhibits and displays here that are great for kids, but also adults, too. They've done a wonderful job at making education a fun experience.
After touring the Visitor Center, it's time to hit the trails.
Cell coverage generally isn’t a problem, but I’d highly recommend downloading the trail maps on AllTrails ahead of time. If you’re an AllTrails+ member, even better!
There are several trails within the NWR, and all of them are kid-friendly.
Overall, there are about eight miles of nature trails to explore. A few of them hover around the three-mile mark, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
Each one of the trails is more enchanting than the next, and you never know what wildlife will make an appearance, which is always fun.
Pets are allowed on the trails, just make sure to keep them on a leash!
As you're watching for wildlife, be sure to look up, too!
The refuge is a favorite spot for migratory birds, but also adorable native ones like this pair of cardinals pictured above.
Caroline Lake is the centerpiece here at Red River NWR, and fishing and paddling are popular pastimes.
Largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish are just a few of the fish you could reel in.
There are plenty of spots to sit for a spell and admire the view.
The lake is a great spot to do a little birdwatching, too.
Visit the Red River National Wildlife Refuge website for more information, and be sure to follow the Red River National Wildlife Refuge on Facebook so you don't miss out on any upcoming events.
Keep the autumn adventures going with this Louisiana fall foliage road trip that'll take you to some of the best spots to watch the leaves change in Louisiana.
