Best State Park Beaches in Louisiana to Visit to Close Out Summer
There's no better place to soak up the last lazy summer days than at one of Louisiana's state park beaches.
Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn't mean there isn't time left to enjoy a sunny afternoon at the beach. We can still take advantage of the warm weather and sunshine before the kids return to school and life becomes even busier during the fall and impending holiday season. Between the state's lakes and the Gulf shore, you can easily find a secluded spot on the sand to enjoy what's left of the season. Perhaps there's no better place to soak up the last lazy summer days than at one of Louisiana's state park beaches.
Fontainebleau State Park
Located along the picturesque shore of Lake Pontchartrain, the 2,800-acre Fontainebleau State Park is a dream destination during the summer months. Once home to a sugar cane plantation, which ended operations in 1852, there's quite a long history within this park, and you will be able to see the ruins of the sugar mill during your visit. When not exploring the park's past, head to the sandy lakeside beach for sunbathing and swimming, and watch as sailboats float by.
Cypremort Point State Park
One of the most scenic Louisiana state parks, Cypremort Point State Park, is home to a beautiful beach that stretches a half-mile along the Gulf Shore. An ideal spot for a summer retreat, plan on spending several hours relaxing on the sand, going for a swim, or having a picnic while soaking in the water views and sunshine. Just outside the park's entrance is a boat launch if you prefer to be on the water for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, or waterskiing. A fishing area is also located at each end of this small 185-acre park.
Lake Claiborne State Park
Located in Claiborne Parish, Lake Claiborne State Park provides access to the 6,400-acre Lake Claiborne. This man-made lake was created with the damming of the Bayou D'Arbonne and provides outdoor recreation aplenty for folks who want an enjoyable summer day at the lake. While boating and fishing are popular activities, families love spending the day at one of the park's sandy lakeside beaches for access to swimming and sandcastle building. If you desire one last summer getaway, rent one of the park's cabins with lake views. Perhaps there's no better place to close the summer than Lake Claiborne!
Grand Isle State Park
Located on the barrier island of Grand Isle in the Gulf, Grand Isle State Park is a serene beach for your end-of-summer getaway. At only 140 acres, this Louisiana state park is small, but it sure is big with views when you're here for a day at the beach. This family-friendly beach destination is ideal for saltwater swimming, beachcombing, and building sandcastles. Furthermore, fishing is also a popular activity here, so make sure you grab your fishing license and gear and cast a line into the Gulf. For those of you who have an RV, there's an RV campground close to the water.
