Kayaking and/or canoeing is a great activity that’s perfect for both a group of friends or a solo adventure. And if you time it right, you can escape the scorching heat that Louisiana summers are known for. Located in Webster Parish, Lake Bistineau State Park is perhaps one of the most underrated state parks in Louisiana, featuring everything from an 18-hole disc golf course to 10 miles of woodland trails that will lead you through the parks scenic pine and cypress forests. There’s even an 11-mile canoe trail that’s maybe one of the best-kept secrets of the park!
Lake Bistineau State Park is a hidden gem for anyone who loves spending time on the water.
The lake as we know it was formed back in 1800 after a massive log jam in the Red River caused thousands of acres of land to flood.
In 1935, a permanent dam was built across nearby Loggy Bayou, which created the beautiful lake we can enjoy today.
With a surface area just shy of 27 square miles and a maximum depth of 25 feet, the lake attracts boaters and fishermen from all over.
Largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish are just a few of the prized fish you can reel in from the lake’s clear, freshwater.
You don't have to be a fisherman to enjoy the lake. The 11-mile canoe trail is a beautiful way to explore the lake.
Surrounded by towering cypress trees draped with that iconic Spanish moss...
...you'll have a front-row seat to some of the most stunning scenery in the state!
After a day of paddling, feel free to fire up one of the many grills and refuel.
Maybe you can catch yourself dinner!
For more information, including cabin rentals and park maps, visit the park's website, and be sure to give it a follow on Facebook, too. What's your favorite paddle trail in Louisiana? Shout it out in the comments below!
