Even if just briefly, we love those moments when you can gaze out at your favorite river, lake, hiking trail, or recreation area and just appreciate the solitude. Tucked away between Buhlow Lake and the Red River, Fort Buhlow Recreation Area might be rather well-known by the locals, but it’s not as popular with folks outside the area, making it the perfect spot to spend the day.

As you can see, there’s plenty of space to sprawl out.

A boat launch plus a boat dock, picnic tables and grills, and a playground are just a few of the amenities here.

The hiking trails and cross-country course are a great way to get some exercise in and spend some time surrounded by lush greenery.

The nature trail is about a mile long and loops around the recreation area.

It’s easy enough that even the youngest of nature lovers can get in on the fun, and you might even see some local wildlife along the way!

There are two disc golf courses here, and these are some of the best disc courses in the state.

They’ve even hosted the Louisiana State Dic Golf Championship Tournament.
