There are many wonderful caves in Kentucky and in a state that is famous for its caves, you may think you're already aware of all the underground wonders the Bluegrass State has to offer. Everyone knows of the longest cave system in the world - Mammoth Cave - which is its own National Park and definitely a sight to behold (It is one of my favorites). Many also know of and have visited Carter Caves and the associated state park. But, have you heard of Diamond Caverns in Kentucky? If not, you definitely should check it out, as it is one of the oldest visited caves in the country and many would argue it's the most beautiful in Kentucky. If you enjoy natural beauty and history, Diamond Caverns is a Kentucky cave that you should explore at least once.

Diamond Caverns is located adjacent to the popular Mammoth Cave National Park in Park City, Kentucky.

This area of our state is obviously famous for its underground features, but make sure you don't miss out on this lesser-known cave that is stunningly beautiful.

Diamond Caverns tours have been running for over 155 years, meaning people have been in awe of this mysterious cave for generations.

The cathedral spaces, unique formations, and interesting history all make this a must-see cave. Just take a look at these Diamond Caverns photos to get a little taste of what to expect on these underground tours.

Tours are offered year-round at Diamond Caverns and you do not need a reservation.

During peak season (mid-March through Labor Day), tours begin about every 30 to 45 minutes. At other times of the year, tours are still offered. A maximum of 20 people can go on each tour, so it's an intimate experience where you will learn, explore, and get up close to this magnificent underground natural museum. If your group is bigger than 20 people, you simply have to call ahead to make a reservation.

The tour is designated as strenuous, thanks to the 350 stairs scattered throughout the pathway, but it is appropriate for all ages.

You'll spend about an hour looking up, down, and around at naturally colorful rocks, intricate drapery, and cascading calcite.

The walkway for the tour is paved and includes railings when necessary. The cave remains a cool 58 degrees all year long, so plan accordingly. Be sure to check out the cavern's website (linked below) for restrictions on what you can take along and other recommendations.

On your way to Diamond Caverns, you will pass by Mammoth Cave, but make sure you keep going to reach this one-of-a-kind Kentucky destination.
