One of the best things about being in Kentucky is witnessing its places of natural beauty that seem as though they came from a painting. Bob Ross is especially known for capturing the grandeur of nature with his brush, and there’s a stunning landscape in Kentucky that we think emulates something he would have loved to paint. Welcome to picturesque Doe Run Lake in Kentucky.
This 30-acre lake next to Bullock Pen Road, just off KY 17 is a serene and beautiful place that is less well-known than many of the vast state parks. It boasts two lush hiking trails, Bluebird Trail and Doe Run Nature Trail.
Breathtaking views like this, filled with a vast blue sky and thousands of “happy little trees” bursting with autumn colors, surrounding a shimmering lake are the kinds of places that make us wonder if we’ve somehow wandered into one of Bob Ross’ landscape paintings.
Even as the trees start to lose their leaves and the landscape becomes more barren, Doe Run Lake in Kentucky is a display of otherworldly beauty filled with golden and rust hues that begs to be reflected on canvas. I wonder what techniques Bob would have taught to capture this scene.
It’s amazing how so many trees can be packed into one space and many can still seem to stand out individually. The thin white trunks bursting with vivid green foliage and all of it reflecting off the clear water is utterly picturesque.
The sunsets here are no less stunning, with rays of light emanating above the clouds and the setting sun reflecting off the pond. It would be a wonderful place to set up camp and take it all in. I wonder how many stars would shine above at night.
It seems that no matter where we stand, seeing this place from every angle affords a spectacular view. Hiking the trail around the pond is one of the most serene and wonderful experiences and I couldn’t blame you for stopping often to take pictures, or perhaps setting up your own easel.
Wintertime creates a stillness and serenity in a snowy landscape where the skies and the snow lend themselves to a work of art that would certainly draw the eye. Plus, it simply be fun to slide around on the ice!
The real surprise is that Doe Run Lake is not some remote destination, but this stunning landscape in Kentucky tucked away in the city of Covington, KY! I’d say it’s time to get yourself out here to see it for yourself! It’s one of the things that makes Covington one of the most underrated places in Kentucky.
