We may not have the dramatic mountains of nearby places like Colorado, but that doesn't mean there aren't incredible Sunflower State vistas to enjoy. There's a huge variety of hikes in Kansas, ranging from quick jaunts suitable for the whole family to longer trails for more experienced trekkers. Today, we're featuring a lengthy trail near Olathe, Kansas that's an all-day journey for hikers looking for a real challenge. The Indian Creek Trail obviously doesn't have to be completed all in its entirety, but if you're looking for a long hike without much elevation gain, this is a great option!
The Indian Creek Trail spans an impressive 22.5 miles and actually extends into Missouri.
Despite its length, it's got very gradual elevation gain and the entire trail is paved, making it accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
This is no easy-peasy nature walk, though. Enjoying the entire trail takes most explorers nearly eight hours!
You can always just opt for a point-to-point trek through part of the trail if you don't have all day to spend outside.
The trail features a great variety of residential scenery and shaded, woody paths.
It's a great area for mountain biking, but take note that some parts of the trail can be a little bit bumpy.
You never know what kind of critters you'll see! Deer are quite common around the trail, so keep your eyes peeled.
