We love lengthy, arduous hikes, but don't you sometimes just want to try something a little easier? If you're looking for a simple paved trail in Kansas suitable for just about anyone, look no further. The Gary L. Haller Trail at Shawnee Mission Park is a lovely 2.1-mile loop without much elevation gain. The paved surface makes for easy footing that's wheelchair accessible and kid-friendly. This is a great way to get out and stretch your legs while enjoying the natural beauty of this urban park.
Shawnee Mission Park is a beautiful oasis that spans 1,655 acres. There are plenty of opportunities for fun here, including a wonderful 120-acre lake.
The Gary L. Haller Trail and Mill Creek Trail combine in a loop that's a nice, easy little path.
There are several nearby connector trails, so you can change your route if you like.
This is a simple "what you see is what you get" trail, which is nice sometimes! Not every walk has to be a treacherous, lengthy trek through the woods.
The trail is typically open year-round. Note that there's not much shade, so you may want to come early in the morning if it's a summer day.
The start of the trail is near the lake - that area can get a little busy, but you'll find much of the rest of this 2.1-mile trail to be fairly quiet.
