Pomona State Park In Kansas Just Turned 60 Years Old And It’s The Perfect Spot For A Day Trip
There are 28 state parks in Kansas, and each offers up its own special blend of history and scenic views. While we think visiting each of these special parks is an event that belongs on everyone's Sunflower State bucket list, we're featuring one today that just hit a very special milestone. Pomona State Park was established in 1963, meaning it recently turned 60 years old. This park is located in Osage County, about 35 miles south of Topeka, and it's got so many fun activities the whole family can enjoy. Let's take a closer look:
You may know Pomona State Park by its former name: Vassar State Park. The park spans 490 acres along the south shore of Pomona Lake.
The 4,000-acre lake that shares the park's name is incredibly beautiful, and also provides excellent opportunities for water recreation.
Water skiing, fishing, and swimming are all quite popular here.
Of course, just enjoying the scenery with a nice picnic is always a great option too, though.
The park is in an ecological zone that's a transition between prairie and woodlands, meaning there are all kinds of species you can catch a glimpse of here.
If you love Pomona State Park so much that you don't want to leave for a few days, the good news is there are plenty of campsites available.
The park boasts 350 modern and primitive campsites available for use.
Whether you stay for a day or a weekend, this is a beautiful park that's more than worthy of a visit.
