What's that beautiful smell? It's lavender! Whether you're looking for a great photo setting, wedding locations, or just a good place to get bundles for your home, this is the place to be.
Prairie Lavender Farm on 69 Alpine Ridge Ln
in Bennington offers 12 varieties of the herb, with about 3,000 individual plants.
Three thousand bushes of it? That's a hard day's work during harvest! There are no machines involved here; they do it by hand sickle. (Hopefully they also get a pop-sickle for their trouble)
Lavender is in the Mint family, and offers many herbal benefits besides its smell.
Look at the little herb fairy go!
Every year they have a Lavender Festival, which hosts painting, a farm tour, and food prepared with lavender. This year is their 10th festival anniversary, held on June 17.
You'd find me laying in the grass surrounded by this wonderful plant.
The farm is certified naturally grown, and also bee-friendly! We need more farms like this to keep bees alive.
The insect in the photo is actually a member of the moth family, a Snowberry Clearwing. One of my personal favorites.
They make everything from body butters, lotions, sprays, bundles, and wreaths. There's nothing more pretty than a wreath of these plants!
They also sell a variety of products through local vendors. Why not check them out?
Check out their products and more about their hours at their website.
Somehow, a Kansas sunset can be made so much better by a field of purple. All those little bushes under a rainbow sky... I can only imagine the beauty.
Who's ready for a trip to this luscious farm? I know I am. If you're looking for more farm-side Kansas trips, check out the links below!
