When you live in a city and you don't like crowds, finding something to do can be a real challenge. I'm the type of person who can't wait to come home after some event that was positively packed. In my opinion, here are 10 great places to spend time when you don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of noise and people.
1. Take a spa day at Blue Bird's
What's a better way to enjoy a day without too many people around than to have a spa day? With massages, treatments, and beauty care, there's no reason not to treat yourself here! They're at 7399 W 97th St, Overland Park, KS.
2. Go on a retreat with Tallgrass Zen
If you're looking for more of a quiet time, with few people and a relaxed atmosphere, try meditation! Tallgrass Zen at 1221 Thurston, Manhattan, KS is a great choice.
3. Hike the Konza Prairie
Nobody will bother you if you're just on a hike. Grab your boots and a backpack and head out into the natural prairies of Konza. It's just one of those places where everything is peaceful. 100 Konza Prairie Ln, Manhattan, KS.
4. Sip and Paint at Paint Therapy Uncorked
Got just a friend or two you want to hang out with? Don't like clubs but still want to drink and have fun? Enjoy some wine and make a piece of art here at Paint Therapy Uncorked. 5130 SW 29th St B, Topeka, KS.
5. Camp out at Acorns Resort
If you've got some vacation time to use up, why not go camping? You don't have to take anyone with you, and you can rent a cabin all to yourself or invite those few people you actually want to spend time with. Rent a kayak, go fishing, enjoy the outdoors! 3710 Farnum Creek Rd, Milford, KS.
6. Enjoy live music at R Coffee House
Live music is varied and in such a small place like this, there's no room for crowds. Make it a date or eat alone, they serve food all day! This is personally one of my favorite places to be. 1144 Bitting St, Wichita, KS.
7. Reach for the stars at Powell Observatory
Why not take a little trip to stargaze? For a small price, you can see the stars up close like you've never seen. 26500 Melrose St, Louisburg, KS.
8. Catch a movie at Starlite Drive-in
Want to see a movie (or three) but you don't like sitting next to people? Stay in your car! This drive-in plays three movies every showing, and you can stay as long as you like. 3900 S Hydraulic Ave, Wichita, KS,
9. Eat here or take home some Yokohama Ramen
I can't tell you how delicious this place is, you'll have to see for yourself! It's a tiny little shop that seats only about 20, tops. The good thing is, you can take your ramen home with you! It's all authentic, and it's all delicious. You've gotta try this place at 613 W Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS .
10. If those activities aren't enough for you, travel!
If none of these places sound good enough, just pick a town on the map that you've never heard of, and drive there for a day. Kansas is filled with small towns, and each one has a character of its own. Harper, KS is where I go when I need a break from all the business of where I live. Where do you go?
Sometimes you live in a city but you hate the idea of sharing it with a bunch of other people. Hopefully this list will give you some ideas of what to do where there's not a crowd keeping you from fun. For more great places to be in Kansas, check out this list.
