This historic Iowa park is loved by anyone who visits, and you'll feel like you're a part of the past when you walk the trails and take in all the history on display.
Backbone State Park was founded in 1920 and it remains one of the state's most popular recreation destinations.
There are miles and miles of trails that show off rocky outcroppings, breathtaking overlooks, and the unique geologic features of the region.
The park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and many of our grandfathers helped craft the bridges, cabins, and boathouses.
One of the most interesting spots in the whole park is Richmond Spring. Bring blue water seems to appear out of nowhere in this peaceful natural pool.
The signature of the park is the Backbone State Park Beach. It's a great spot for swimming and fishing, and it might be the best place for a picnic in Iowa.
