Conceptualized in 2002, the Wellfield Botanic Gardens were officially born in 2005 and began being constructed in 2006. It is actually a collection of about a dozen themed gardens that come together to create an incredible world of beauty you have to see to believe.
The main attraction to this marvelous place is the field of thousands of daffodils located in the Spring Garden. It is best viewed in April and May, so stop by ASAP. You may also find plants like witch hazel, crocus, dog wood, and forsythia bushes.
There are 36 acres in total at this botanic garden and half of of them are under water. Ponds, streams, and even waterfalls are hidden all throughout this stunning oasis.
Speaking of water, aqua is actually one of the most important features of this patch of land. Historically, it has supplied the town with water for decades and still owns and operates 13 active wells that still provide the majority of the community's drinking water.
Some of the most lovely features you'll witness around this spring garden are bridges, fountains, meandering paths, charming benches, small pagodas, and gazebos. From the moment you arrive at this gorgeous place of nature, you'll be swept away by its magic.
Themed gardens make this attraction fun for the whole family no matter your age. There is an Annual Garden that celebrates each season, a Sensory Garden, a Waterfall Garden, a Japanese garden, a Children's garden, an Adventure Path, an English Cottage Garden, and much more.
A nonprofit organization, this wonderful place aims to teach locals how to preserve the natural world around them. Special events take place throughout the year to further promote these efforts, and you can learn more about them on the garden's website (link below) or by stopping in at the visitors center and gift shop.
With spring in full swing, hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday as well as 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. These hours will remain through the end of October, after which winter hours will take affect. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children between the ages of 3 and 12.
