If you've never been to Indiana, you might think that there's no such thing as a beach day around here; but in fact, there are dozens of amazing beaches in Indiana, many of which are right along Lake Michigan or any number of the other amazing lakes in the Hoosier State (of which there are hundreds). The beach we're going to take a moment to appreciate today is one of the many Lake Michigan beaches, which looks and feels an awful lot like the ocean despite the fact that the nearest oceanic beach is hundreds of miles away. It's Kemil Beach, and everything about it from the nearby town of Beverly Shores to its breathtaking sunrises and all things in between is worthy of awe.
Kemil Beach is a beautiful little slice of heaven located in the town of Beverly Shores.
If that town sounds familiar, it's because it is; Beverly Shores is one of the most amazing small towns in Indiana, going as far as being an international dark sky city right here in Indiana for the best stargazing you'll ever do.
There are dozens - if not more - of beaches nestled along Lake Michigan, but Kemil Beach is one of the most beloved.
It's easy to see why; it feels more like you're on vacation in the Bahamas than in Indiana, though of course there is a noticeable lack of palm trees (and the air is always just a little bit chillier).
The water is crystalline and perfectly clear; it looks so flawless that you might be tempted to drink it (but don't do that).
There's plenty to do during a day, a weekend, or even longer spent at Kemil Beach. The sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular, so we personally recommend camping at one of the nearby campgrounds for a day or two (or ten).
There are plenty of wonderful options nearby, and we cannot recommend camping at Indiana Dunes National Park, which is less than a stone's throw away, enough.
This place is so uniquely beautiful, and we feel like its majesty cannot be understated. It's equal parts awe-invoking and deeply relaxing, and we are honored that it's ours.
Of course, should you decide you've had enough of the water, don't worry - Beverly Shores has some of the best shopping and dining in Indiana.
We suggest a whole weekend spent at Beverly Shores, Indiana Dunes and, of course, Kemil Beach.
Of all the beaches in Indiana, Kemil Beach might just be the best one.
Of course, "best" is subjective - but we sure think so!
