Nestled inside beautiful Pokagon State Park, in far northeastern Indiana, is a stunning beautiful lakeside paradise that will make you forget you're not by the ocean. It's called Lake James, and it's particularly special for several reasons. Not only is it one of the most beautiful lakes in Indiana, but it's also among the most pristine.
In many studies, the sparkling waters of Lake James were found to be quite clean - among the cleanest in the entire state.
Lake James is a beautiful natural lake known as a "glacial" lake; it was formed about 10,000 years ago during the Pleistocene Era. A lot of the lakes around Indiana are glacial in origin, and they're all totally beautiful.
However, Lake James is especially perfect.
There's just something about crystal-clear, cool waters that makes it easy to forget all your stress for an afternoon (or longer).
There's plenty of camping, fishing, boating, and more fun to be had at Lake James.
As the fourth-largest lake in Indiana, it's the perfect place for a quick getaway, or for something a little longer.
If you prefer not to camp beside a body of water, no worries - Lake Pokagon State Park has plenty of other campsites, too.
Just about everyone will find something to admire about this beautiful area; even the less outdoorsy types are bound to love this picturesque landscape. You'll find plenty of beautiful wildflowers in the spring, and when the wildlife comes out during the warmer months, you'll love to watch the variety of critters as well.
Fishing is available in every season; the lake is quite popular for ice fishing in the winter.
The life in the lake is quite diverse and, as a result of the excellent water quality, it thrives.
If camping isn't quite your thing, that's fine - the nearby town of Angola, Indiana, has plenty of cozy spots to spend the night.
You'll want to wake up early, of course - there's so much to enjoy at Lake James that you'll definitely need to maximize every day.
So, what do you think? Is Lake James the perfect getaway, or is it the perfect getaway? We think so! Looking for more adorable small towns to spend a weekend in? Check out this list to learn our favorites.
