Discover One Of Indiana’s Most Majestic Waterfalls – No Hiking Necessary

Thistlethwaite Falls in Richmond, Indiana, is a man-made waterfall that can be easily accessed without a hike.

Seeing a waterfall in Indiana doesn't mean you need to take some great adventure with an endlessly long and difficult hike. The Hoosier town of Richmond is home to the most majestic waterfall in the state, Thistlethwaite Falls, and you can go see it without even having to take a hike! If you like exploring interesting places in nature, you'll love these stunning falls. Check it out:

Located along the west fork of the incredible Whitewater River, which is in Richmond about 70 miles east of Indianapolis, is a mighty waterfall that comes with a bit of local history.

It's hard to tell, but these falls are man-made. They were created by the damming of the river, which forced water to flow over a rocky ledge. This engineering feat is accredited to Timothy Thistlethwaite who completed the task in 1854.

The damming of the river allowed for several mills to be built, but none remain in existence today.

To find this majestic waterfall, get on South US 27 (likely from I-70) until you find Waterfall Road. You will cross a narrow bridge that is just above these fantastic falls to find the parking area.

You can see this waterfall from atop the bridge, or you can get a closer look by taking a small path that leads to the top of the falls. There are also stone steps that lead to the waterfall's base.

Technically part of Whitewater Gorge Park, this area does offer wonderful hiking opportunities, if you so wish to take a longer adventure. The falls are part of a 3.5-mile trail that runs along the river.
