Hidden away in Bloomington on Old State Road 37 is one of the largest, most inclusive playgrounds in Indiana. It's huge, and it's absolutely perfect for kids of all ages, abilities, and sizes. Let me tell you: this park is epic. Bloomington is a forward-thinking, progressive little place, and it even shows in its careful love for its parks and everyone who visits. Come out to visit Lower Cascades Park and introduce the kids to the single coolest playground they'll probably ever experience. They'll beg to keep coming back, so be ready!
Lower Cascades Park is a popular, much-loved destination in Bloomington that kids and parents alike absolutely love.
The grounds are huge, and so is the playground - which just so happens to be totally accessible.
Oh, and there's not one playground - there's two.
Kids of all ages will find all sorts of fun adventures here to be had, like on the swings, the climbing apparatus, slides, a toddler play area, and more.
There's even a small creek that runs through the park, as well as its very own little waterfall.
The park is very popular, but if you're able to make it on a weekday or early in the morning, you might just have it to yourself. It's the best time to bring preschool-aged children to play without so many big kids around.
Of course, there's something here for big kids and little kids - it all just depends on what they enjoy doing, and their play styles.
Hikers love this place, too! The Cascades Trail meanders right through the park, and at a length of about 2.7 miles, it's no slouch! Bring water whether you plan to hike or not - hydration is important.
Lower Cascades Park is an awesome option for birthday parties - there are two large shelters available for booking.
You can book a shelter online or by visiting the parks and recreation office. You'll definitely want to reserve well ahead of time, as the park and its shelters are much-beloved among Hoosiers.
Looking for a day trip that doesn't require money? Lower Cascades Park - and its epic playground - are perfect.
Unless, of course, you want a shelter - that's not free, but it's very affordable. No matter your needs, this little piece of paradise is an awesome option for every family.
