If there's one thing we can't get enough of at Only In Your State (okay, there are a lot of things, but still), it's a good, solid hiking trail. Well, luckily for us, Indiana is full of those, with literally thousands of miles of amazing hikes weaving all over the state like life-giving veins delivering blood to the body. If you're a fan of hiking trails with amazing views to get your blood pumping, then you'll definitely find one particular trail to be especially wonderful: it's the Fall Creek Trail, and it's a perfect treat for any Indiana nature lover to trek. Come check out one of the most idyllic, awe-inspiring hiking trails in Indiana and experience the great outdoors as if for the first time all over again. Anyone hoping to explore the best hikes in Indiana will want to add this trail to their to-do list.
You have a few different options when it comes to this hike.
You can do the 2.7-mile Camp Creek and Fall Creek Loop Trail, which is the best of everything, or you can do the longer Fall Creek Trail - it's up to you, but both are splendid.
The first thing you'll probably notice is how stunningly lush everything is.
The trail is open year-round, including in the winter, but we especially love it when everything is in full, spectacular bloom.
Depending on which route you take, the trail may be paved or simply dirt - but for the most part, it's easy to follow.
It's well marked, though if you're visiting in January or February be prepared for plenty of mud as the snow melts off.
No matter when you show up, the hike is worth it.
It leads through fairy-tale beautiful woodlands following along the path of a gorgeous, babbling creek that unfolds into a river at many point.
Of course, all of it is wonderful - but our favorite part is the stellar views of several small lakes and ponds along the way.
Sure, it may not be a dramatic overlook or a cascading waterfall, but boy, are these views worth the entire adventure.
Quite possibly the best part: you'll encounter various amazing points of view throughout the trek, so you'll be able to find the best angles to take photos, have a picnic, or simply soak it all up.
Ultimately, it's up to you. The trail is quite popular, so be prepared to see others along the way, and make sure to wear appropriate shoes (and pack some water) no matter when you show up.
