Indiana is home to many amazing hikes; ask anyone who enjoys getting outside and hiking which trail their personal favorite is, and you're sure to get a plethora of (excellent) answers. Today, I'd like to take a moment to explore one particular hiking trail in Indiana that's a step above the rest. This lesser-known trail in Indiana is beloved by the locals, but tragically underrated by visitors and out-of-towners; it's popular, but it still somehow manages to be under-the-radar at the same time. It's the gorgeous Benjamin Harrison MTB Loop, and it's an awesome little adventure for anyone looking for one.
The legendary Fort Benjamin Harrison MTB Loop is an adventure and a half, coming in at almost eight miles long!
It's rated as moderately challenging, and I agree; it can be a little tough at times, but I promise it's worth it.
No matter what season you arrive, you're sure to have a wonderful adventure.
Should you hike the whole thing all the way through, from start to finish, it ought to take about two and a half hours.
Of course, that's if you don't want to stop to smell the flowers... or check out the wonders around you.
Fort Harrison State Park is probably one of our lesser-known parks, often overlooked in favor of Turkey Run or Brown County State Parks.
Once you've discovered the wonder that is the Fort Benjamin Harrison MTB Loop, you'll definitely find yourself craving it again and again.
The most popular activities out here are by far hiking and mountain biking, so if you're a bike rider, this is definitely the trail for you!
Though it's open all year long, the best times to visit - in my opinion - are during spring and autumn.
You can show up whenever you'd like, though, and I have a sneaking suspicion that you'll like to return often. I mean... you're surrounded by forest, some truly interesting geological features, a pond, and so much more.
I don't want to post too much about it, though, lest I spoil some of the best surprises along the way.
Not sure what to bring along? No worries - our handy hiking trip packing list is full of all the essentials, and then some. For more information about this awesome trail, check out the official Fort Benjamin Harrison MTB Loop listing on AllTrails. And let me know how your hike goes!
