Long ago, the Ohio RIver's glacial floodwater carved out a flood plain which is the Cache River State Natural Area. It covers an expanse of 14,960 acres.

One of the most awe-inspiring natural features throughout the Cache River wetlands is the ancient cypress trees. Many of the trees are nearly 1,000 years old.

The bases of the cypress trees, called buttresses, are quite massive. Some have a circumference of over 40 feet!

The wetlands of the Cache River State Natural Area provide a rich habitat for hundreds of waterfowl and migratory bird species. It's the perfect spot for those of you who enjoy birdwatching.
