I love the city parks that are found throughout Idaho. From pirate-themed playgrounds to those designed for all abilities, there is no shortage of incredible places to spend a day outdoors with the entire family in tow. While Idaho’s cities are often where you can find some of the best parks, tucked away in the small town of Ketchum is one of our favorites — Atkinson Park. This underrated city park in Idaho is where you can run, play, garden, ice skate, and so much more.
Ketchum is a small town in Central Idaho. It is a popular resort town near Sun Valley and one of my favorite weekend getaway destinations.
While Ketchum is known for many things (like its incredible restaurants), many people don’t know about its delightful city parks such as Atkinson Park.
Atkinson Park is located at 900 3rd Avenue. Here, you will find something for every member of your family.
This park features many traditional park amenities including a large pavilion, picnic tables, playground, and plenty of green space.
During the warmer months of the year, you can also let out your competitive side while playing at the volleyball court, pickleball court, or tennis courts.
However, right next to the park is one unique feature — the Watch Me Grow Garden.
This is a children’s education garden where children can not only develop their green thumbs but they can learn the importance of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Even during the winter months, Atkinson Park in Ketchum is a must-visit. In fact, this may be our favorite time to visit this city park as it is home to the Christina Potters Outdoor Ice Rink.
This man-made outdoor ice skating rink is the perfect winter activity. It is the largest non-refrigerated human-made ice skating rink in the Pacific Northwest.
Even better, skating at the rink is free of charge but the hours it is open depends entirely on the weather. It is typically open from the end of December until the middle of February.
Atkinson Park is an underrated city park in Ketchum that has something for everyone no matter the time of year. From a children’s garden to a massive outdoor ice skating rink, it’s certainly worthy of a visit.
