Idaho summers can get pretty brutal. On those extra dry and hot days, a visit to the nearest beach is a must. However, finding one that isn't super crowded can definitely be an issue. If you're the type of person that likes to cool off in peace and quiet, then a visit to this stunning hidden beach is a must. Boasting the most crystal clear water, you'll almost swear you've been transported to a tropical paradise. It's places like this one that just prove that Idaho is full of lovely surprises. All you have to do is uncover them.
Lake Pend Oreille remains one of Idaho's very best-kept secrets. It's not very well-known among non-Idahoans, yet—in our humble opinion—it remains one of the most gorgeous bodies of water in the country.
Naturally, the lake is chock full of hidden beaches that are well-worth seeking out. One of the very best is known as Evans Landing. Located on the western shore of the lake near Cocolalla, this gem of a beach is simply breathtaking.
To get to the beach, you'll have to hop onto Evans Landing Trail. The brief two-mile trail is far from taxing. It contains a multitude of switchbacks which in turn create a gentle grade almost the entire way down. However, there is one step portion as you get closer to the lake.
The trail offers wonderful sweeping views of the lake, surrounded by forest-covered hills and the Cabinet Mountains in the distance. It's a scenic little journey that is nearly worth the trip alone!
However, the beach itself is stunning. Comprised of a nice gravel shoreline, the lake is definitely a welcome sight on a hot summer day. Although you may come across some other swimmers and maybe a few boaters, there's plenty of space on the beach for you to enjoy yourself and the spectacular surroundings.
As a whole, Lake Pend Oreille is an awe-inspiring destination. However, this beach, in particular, truly showcases its beauty. The water is crystal clear, creating the most amazing shade of blue from afar. For a moment, you may just believe you've stumbled onto a Caribbean paradise!
There are a few picnic tables and plenty of shaded areas located along the beach. However, the place is pretty secluded so you'll want to be sure to pack your own food, water, and anything else you may need. There are no restroom areas at the beach.
This summer, make it your mission to seek out this heavenly little beach. Boasting the most magnificent water, unending views, and sweet seclusion, there's really nothing not to love about this place. Click here to be taken to the trail map.
