Find Paradise At The Stunning And Shady Spencer Beach Park In Hawaii
Spencer Beach Park on Hawaii Island offers a serene and family-friendly beach experience with calm waters and ample amenities.
From the black sand beaches on the Big Island and Maui’s magnificent red sand beaches to pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters on Oahu and Kauai, the Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the most breathtaking beaches in the country — and perhaps even the world. With approximately 750 miles of coastline, Hawaii’s beaches are phenomenal, but none have stolen our hearts quite like this underrated gem nestled along the coast of Hawaii Island.
Nestled along the Kohala Coast, just a half-hour north of Kona International Airport, is Spencer Beach Park. As one of the northernmost white-sand beaches on Hawaii Island, the smooth, soft sand of Spencer Beach offers a comfortable respite from the often rocky beaches found across the island.
Well-protected by an offshore reef, which allows for calm water perfect for swimming and snorkeling most days, Spencer Beach Park is especially popular amongst local families with small children.
Picnicking and beachcombing are also excellent at Spencer Beach and ample shade found under large, native trees will make it easy to spend all day here.
Featuring picnic pavilions, tables, barbecue grills, restrooms, outdoor showers, and a lifeguard tower, the amenities are all we could hope for.
If you want to extend your day at the beach into a weekend spent in paradise, you’re in luck — camping is allowed overnight via permit.
The beach is within walking distance of Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site and is the perfect place to make a splash whether you’re a Big Island local, are visiting from a neighboring island, or are on vacation in the Aloha State.
Fine, white sand, crystalline sparkling waters, and plenty of shade make Spencer Beach Park one of the most idyllic slices of paradises we’ve ever seen and if this spot isn’t on your outdoors bucket list yet, what are you waiting for?
Samuel M. Spencer Beach Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Have you ever been to this stretch of sand? What is your favorite Big Island Beach? Share your opinions in the comments below!
