The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail In Hawaii Takes You From The Beach To A Lighthouse And Back

Oahu has some pretty epic hikes to complete, but there’s something utterly spectacular Makapu'u Point Lighthouse trail in Hawaii. This stunning, easy trail will take you up high on the cliffside for some of the most epic views in the area. Head on out to the lighthouse, and if you’re in season, keep your eyes peeled for migrating humpback whales!

The Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail is a stunning hike that takes you up the cliffside to an observation deck and lighthouse.

The views you get along the way are absolutely breathtaking. Bring some binoculars if you want to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

The entire hike is paved and well maintained.

It’s 2.5 miles, out and back, so it’s not too difficult. You’ll want sun protection though, as there’s not much shade along the trail.

The elevation gain is only 505 feet throughout the entire trail.

This makes it a relatively easy hike that the whole family can enjoy. It’s truly accessible for all skill levels.

Take your time, and plan to spend about two hours on the hike.

That’ll give you plenty of time to take in the sights and rest when it gets too hot. November through May you may just spot a migrating humpback whale, so keep your eyes peeled!

There’s plenty of parking available at the start of the trail.

You may want to come early morning or late afternoon to beat the heat of the day and make sure you get a parking spot. This is a popular place to visit.

This trail is spectacular to do all year long.

It’s easy, it’s accessible, and it’s a short drive on Honolulu. A great place to check out for a morning or afternoon excursion!
