The Hawaiian Islands are known around the globe as a top hiking destination. One park, in particular, has miles and miles of amazing trails that hikers will love to immerse themselves in! Kōkeʻe State Park has nearly 20 breathtaking trails to challenge and excite visitors. Spend the day, or even the week, exploring the hiking trails of Hawaii's beautiful Kōkeʻe State Park for an unforgettable outdoor experience!
Located on Kauai’s west side is Kōkeʻe State Park. This gorgeous 4,345 acre state park is full of lush vegetation, bright tropical flowers, and breathtaking overlooks. It's one of Hawaii's top destinations for hiking.
Kōkeʻe State Park's trail system is vast and offers some unique challenges. There are about 45 miles of trails to explore but be sure to be prepared for inclement weather, rough terrain, and other hazards before setting out.
You will find some trails that are wide and easy to navigate. For less experienced hikers check out Berry Flat Trail or Kaluapuhi Trail.
Other trails will take you deep into tropical forests and up above the valley floor. The trails can get challenging quickly, especially during wet weather. The Pihea Vista Trail is a great choice for hikers who want to see both forests and valley views.
Another popular choice for avid hikers is the Alaka'i Swamp Trail. It's a 7 mile boardwalk hike. In some places the boards have deteriorated so expect to get muddy on this trail!
Throughout the park there are many natural wonders to hike to! Plan your routes accordingly to see Kalalau Lookout and the Puu O Kila Lookout over the Kalalau Valley. You'll also want to see Waiʻaleʻale, where you can also expect wet weather.
While Kōkeʻe State Park has some of the hardest trails to conquer, it's always well worth the effort. Challenge yourself with the 6.7 mile Awa'awapuhi Trail for those unbelievable views.
If you're wanting those Instagram worthy photos you'll have to work for them. Take the 1.9 mile Kalepa Ridge Trail, which has a hard difficulty rating, to see some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Hawaii.
Overall, if you're looking for an amazing hiking destination there is no better place than Kōkeʻe State Park. This hiking paradise will leave you with memories that will remain as vivid as the tropical colors of the Hawaiian Islands.
