We love discovering great hikes in Georgia. If you ask me, there's nothing better than getting out and enjoying nature while getting a bit of exercise in. It's especially magical when you manage to come across a trail that's a bit lesser-known and won't have all the crowds you might find at our more popular state parks. The hike we're featuring today is one of the best trails near Augusta, GA: the Rock Dam Trail at Mistletoe State Park. This is one of the state's most underrated parks. It's home to 1,972 acres of land along Lake Strom Thurmond (also known as Clarks Hill Lake), and has so many great opportunities for recreation, including camping, bass fishing, and eight miles of hiking trails. The Rock Dam Trail is a great option for those seeking a moderately difficult hike. Check it out:
The Rock Dam Trail spans about 6.2 miles and can be enjoyed in a little over two hours.
The trail is a loop, and considered moderately difficult.
There are several other trails within the park that intersect with the Rock Dam Trail, so you can have a "choose-your-own adventure" moment and mix them up, or simply follow the blue-blazed Rock Dam Trail.
The trail has several stream crossings and part of it follows along the lake.
This is a beautiful trail, and I love that it's typically pretty secluded.
There's nothing like being alone in nature with your thoughts!
If you're looking for a great hike near Augusta, GA, this is it!
