Most People Don’t Know There’s a Kayak Park Hiding In Georgia

The longest urban whitewater course in the world and one of the Top 12 Greatest Man-Made Adventures on the Planet voted by USA Today is right here in Georgia. For those of you looking to level up your next outdoor adventure in Georgia, Columbus is the place to be and you won’t want to miss this.

Columbus, Georgia has a whitewater park and kayakers have been in adventure heaven for years.

In 2012, the city of Columbus removed two dams on the Chattahoochee River that were a century old and instead, replaced them with a one-of-a-kind kayak surf wave.

This adjustable whitewater park fondly dubbed the Waveshaper, allows managers of the river to customize the rapids depending on the needs of paddlers.

It’ll be a rare occurrence to visit the Waveshaper channel on a good day and not have it swarming with kayaks, river boards, surfers and more.

Even if you’re looking to tackle the Waveshaper at night, paddlers can continue to surf thanks to the floodlights illuminating the area.

Most kayakers will be able to tackle the majority of this whitewater park, with a fluctuation of rapids with a near-endless variety.

Depending on your skill level and whether or not you’re looking for a high octane approach to the rapids, you’ll enter the park at different points along the river.

For those adventurers looking to test their luck in the Cut Bait Channel, be prepared for a bit of fury that ends in a hole fondly dubbed "Bar Fight."
