Summer in Georgia is a great time. However, it can certainly get a bit muggy. With as many state parks as we have, some fall through the cracks. What better way to enjoy the season than by exploring one of our many underrated state parks? When looking to kick off summer in the Peach State, you'll want to make sure you pick somewhere with plenty of opportunities to cool off. We've found a great state park that may not be as well-known as some of our others, but it's got great opportunities for fun in both the sun and shade. Check out the fantastic Fort Yargo State Park in Winder:
Fort Yargo truly has it all. The 260-acre lake here has a fantastic beach that's great for swimming, fishing, and boating.
The park spans over 1,800 acres, and you'll find over 20 miles of trails here. The wooded paths are perfect for hiking or mountain biking.
There's a historic log fort here that was constructed in 1792 by colonists seeking protection from the native tribes.

Or want to stroll in the water and cool off with gentle waves lapping against your ankles and sand between your toes, Fort Yargo State Park has so many opportunities for fun in the sun!
This is one of our favorite state parks for family fun in Georgia, and it doesn't get much better than a visit here in the summer.
And, if you want to make a whole weekend trip of it, there are 16 cottages, six yurts, and nearly 50 RV and tent campsites available for overnight stays.
