While it isn’t any Gore Canyon Rapids by any means (one of the biggest whitewater rapids in the country in Colorado), it still clocks in as the largest whitewater rapids in the state. Big Shoals State Park is a miniature Gore Rapids and still a worthwhile experience for outdoor adventurers.

Sure, we might not have whitewater rapids the size of Gore Rapids in Colorado, but that doesn’t mean Florida doesn’t have anything to compare.

Big Shoals in Florida offers a miniature Gore Rapids experience, which, if at the right time of your visit, you can see these Class III whitewater rapids at their best.
Open from 8 a.m. to sundown 365 days a year, guests will pay a minimal entry fee in order to gain access to the park.
From there, visitors can have access to towering limestone bluffs, the Suwannee River, and a Class III whitewater classification.
Paddling the shoals is not recommended for just anyone. Only experienced canoe and kayakers should attempt to navigate the shoals.
Even if you aren’t paddling, you can also enjoy the view from Big Shoals rapids by parking in the parking area and hiking one mile along the Big Shoals hiking trail.
There is so much to do here outside of the rapids, so get outside and enjoy the wooded trails perfect for hiking, biking, and so much more.
