The Boldest And Biggest Meteor Shower Of The Year Will Be On Display Above Florida In December

Florida offers a variety of unique natural wonders beyond its famous beaches and theme parks, including caves, waterfalls, and rock formations.

There is a huge celestial event happening this year in December, and night sky enthusiasts want to take advantage of this. In fact, you don’t even need a state-of-the-art telescope to enjoy this show. The 2022 Geminid meteor shower is the biggest and boldest meteor shower of the year, and you’ll be able to see it in Florida. Some of these meteors might even be brighter than the moon! Get ready to watch the Florida night sky light up this December.

Taking place on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, and ending on Thursday, December 15, 2022, the Geminid meteor shower will light up Florida’s skies.

Every December, Earth runs into what’s considered to be asteroid dust, which is why we can catch all of the “shooting stars” overhead.

While most meteor showers are caused by comets, the Geminid meteor shower is caused by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon.

When particles of the asteroid rush through our atmosphere, this is what we see here on Earth.

If you can’t manage to capture the show from your backyard (we understand light pollution can muck things up), then make sure to head into the darkest part of the state to enjoy the show.

The show should peak around 2 a.m. local time, so make sure to find a dark place, some hot cocoa, and enjoy the celestial show!
