In the Withlacoochee State Forest in Florida, there are several caves that are open to the public for adventure and exploration purposes.

What has been dubbed part of the Citrus Tract Cave Area, a good majority of the 30+ caves which have been discovered in the state can be found here.

One of the most popular caves hikes in the state forest is to Dames Cave, which is about a one-mile loop to see one of the state’s oldest and most secluded caves.

This particular hike is suitable for families with younger kids since it’ll take you from and back to your car, plus the cave itself isn’t exceptionally deep.

Dames Cave is a huge fan-favorite because it looks like a giant hole in the ground!

Years ago the roof collapsed on this cave, which resulted in a pretty magnificent sight.

Another cave you can see off this trail system is Peace Cave, which reportedly got its name from various peace symbols painted nearby.

The opening of this cave is a bit of a squeeze and you will definitely need a flashlight to see inside this one.

It’s been said that if you stand inside Peace Cave, you’ll not only feel the temperature drop, but you should also be able to hear the underground waterways.
