Discover the scenic Silver Hill Campsite Trail in Kent Falls State Park, a family-friendly hike along the Housatonic River.
Looking for a beautiful waterfront trail in Connecticut? We have plenty. The state is full of rivers and streams that provide wonderful hiking opportunities. One of the best waterfront trails in the state is the Silver Hill Campsite Trail in Kent Falls State Park. It intersects with the Appalachian Trail, one of the most famous hikes in the entire world, but don't let the AT's intimidating length get you down. The Silver Hill Campsite Trail measures about 9.5 miles out-and-back, but it's a relatively easy trail, with an elevation gain of under 700 feet. It follows along the Housatonic River for its entirety, so even the most directionally-challenged of hikers can't manage to get lost on this one!
The trail's 9.5 miles might sound a little long to those who aren't avid hikers, but remember: you don't have to go the entire way! You can always just explore part of the trail then turn around and return to the car.
If you do choose to follow the trail, you'll encounter some beautiful waterfront scenery. The Housatonic River flows for nearly 150 miles, and the land around it is so lushly verdant.
The entire hike takes about 3.5 hours to complete. Leashed dogs are welcome, and it's a great hike for the family since there's not much steep elevation gain or rocky scrambles.
You'll find plenty of areas to stop for a peaceful picnic.
Enjoying the tranquility of sitting by a flowing river is always an amazing way to spend an afternoon.
