Hike To This Beautiful Pond At This Sprawling Forest In Connecticut
Hiking in Connecticut is one of our favorite activities, and there are certainly plenty of spots for it! The Nutmeg State is teeming with state parks and forests to explore. One of our favorite areas to hit the trails is the Pachaug State Forest. This massive preserve spans more than 28,000 acres and crosses through several towns in eastern Connecticut, including Voluntown. As you can imagine, there are quite a few great hiking trails in the Pachaug State Forest, but the one we're featuring today is the Green Fall Pond Trail. This moderately challenging loop is just over four miles in length, is well-marked, and shows off some great scenery (and even a little history!). Check it out:
The Green Fall Pond Trail is pretty flat, but there are a few areas with rocky scrambles and small river crossings that give it its "moderate" rating.
In all, the hike takes about an hour and a half to explore fully.
You'll pass by some interesting rock formations on the hike, and even a few old gravestones.
I love hiking through the woods in the warm months: there's something so magical about the air when you're surrounded by greenery!
You'll definitely want to bring insect repellent if you visit during summer, though. The trees can make things pretty buggy!
Even in the fall and winter, this is still a lovely trail worthy of exploration.
The variety of views here keeps things interesting, so you don't have to worry about getting bored.
There are so many great trails in the Pachaug State Forest, and this one's definitely one of our favorites.
