The Nutmeg State's proximity to the water means there are all kinds of unique destinations to enjoy here. We've got some pretty incredible scenery along the coast, and there are so many special landmarks that those in land-locked states never get to enjoy! One particularly scenic area right along the coast is Long Wharf Pier in New Haven. This unassuming spot features a beautiful pier that's perfect for enjoying some great views on a day trip to Elm City. Long Wharf Pier is a popular area for food trucks to congregate. That means you won't just get to enjoy pretty views: you can also grab a snack, too!

While the pier that's here today is quite sizable, the name "Long Wharf Pier" actually refers to an older structure that once stood in New Haven.

There was once an even more impressive wharf that stretched out .75 miles, and was actually the longest wharf in the country. It was demolished in the 1950s, when Interstates 91 and 95 were built and the harbor was partially filled in.

Today's Long Wharf Pier is home to Amistad, a replica of a historic schooner, and Quinnipiack, another historic schooner.

This is such a great area for both boat watching and just observing the natural beauty of the coastal area.
