We’ve got a lot of great places to check out during the summer in Connecticut. Maybe you like chasing waterfalls or hiking a trail. Or do you prefer a fun-filled afternoon at a theme park? One spot that pretty much everyone can agree is a great summer destination in Connecticut is Bigelow Hollow State Park. This 516-acre park backs right up against the Nipmuck State Forest, so there is plenty of room to explore here. Whether you want to take a dip in the massive lake, hop in a kayak, relax on the shore, or hike on the trails, there’s truly something for everyone here at one of the best state parks in CT.
This is a wonderful park to visit at any time of year, but we can't help but feel it's best in the summer sun. When combined with the adjoining state forest, there are more than 9,000 acres worth checking out.
You can find both the 18-acre Bigelow Pond and the 300-acre Mashapaug Pond here. Of course, a lake or pond is a must for a summer day out in the sun!
If it's a hot day, a dip in either of these bodies of water will cool you right off.
Bring your dogs along for a dip!
There's plenty of shoreline if you prefer to remain at the water's edge.
