You know Pagosa Springs for its incredible hot springs, outdoor recreational opportunities, and close proximity to attractions like Mesa Verde, but did you know that it is also home to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state? Even better? The waterfall it houses requires a very short hike, which enables us to reap the rewards without doing the work! Here, ladies and gentlemen is the must-see Treasure Falls:
Located a mere 15 miles from town, the aptly named Treasure Falls is arguably the most beautiful waterfall in southwest Colorado.
Named for the nearby Treasure Mountain, Treasure Falls has a history as fascinating as the falls themselves. Legend has it that the area once hid buried gold, which was later discovered by Frenchmen who found the treasure. However, they experienced great hardship the rest of their lives.
Let this be a lesson to all: If you are a Frenchman in the 1700s, do not go trespassing on Spanish turf.
Cascading some 105 feet into Falls Creek, Treasure Falls is unique in that, unlike most waterfalls, it can be both seen and enjoyed from the nearby parking lot!
Do you want to get a better look at the Falls? No problem, as a short, .25-mile uphill hike will provide jaw-dropping views you would hate to miss.
Please note: Treasure Falls is open year-round, but the best time to visit is typically between May and November.
Are you ready to see this stunning waterfall for yourself? To access Treasure Falls, travel south on Highway 160 from Pagosa Springs for 14 miles, which is where you will find the parking area.
