Here in Cincinnati, the views around the Ohio River get quite a bit of attention, as they should. You can't beat the sight of the river winding in front of our beautiful skyline. But there are many other bodies of water near town that are also lovely and deserve a visit or two. East Fork Lake just east of downtown is a serene spot near the city that is perfect to escape to. Check out why it’s a perfect place to unwind and delight you in the best ways possible.
Located just 40 minutes east of downtown in Bethel, East Fork State Park is one of Ohio's largest state parks.
The 4,870-acre park is filled with both adventure and serenity and is the perfect place to visit when you need fresh air, open skies, and an escape from everyday life.
The lake itself is 2,610 acres of picturesque scenery and ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and relaxing.
There are seven boat ramps around the lake, making it easy to access. The views of the surrounding forest from the lake are breathtaking, as are the sandy beaches and rocky bluffs.
The lake and the entire park are full of activity, but not so much that you won't feel as if you're in a natural oasis.
The lake is best explored by kayak or even stand up paddle board. It's a unique way to get some exercise while taking in the serene surroundings.
The 1,200-foot beach is a fun spot in the summer, but is also a welcoming place to explore other times of the year. It’s hard to believe you’re only 25 miles from downtown Cincinnati.
East Fork State Park is also well-known for its impressive hiking trails.
Be sure to check out the link below for the park’s website and a map of all of the trails. You'll find everything from expert level backpacking hikes to beginner-appropriate trails. Many of the trails offer lovely views of the lake.
When you visit the lake, be sure to explore the rest of the park as well.
This area overlooking the spillway offers scenic views of the surrounding forest and the park. The park also includes mountain bike and horse trails, a popular campground, and many other features.
