When you need an escape from daily life, there’s a lush lake waiting for you in the hills of Southern California. A quiet little oasis offers a chance to connect with nature while providing hikers with dramatic views of the Los Angeles skyline. It’s a wonderful spot that’s always worth visiting – here’s what you need to know about Debs Lake.

The lake is located in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, a nature reserve and regional park in the Montecito Hills neighborhood, located in central-northeast Los Angeles.

The park is maintained by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks – it’s named after a former county supervisor.

The city acquired land for the park between 1948 and 1963 and today it contains 282 acres of SoCal walnut groves and woodlands, as well as the Audubon Center at Debs Park, which offers nature programming.

There are miles of trails in the park so it’s popular for hikers and bikers. The park’s trails offer some great views of the Los Angeles skyline and they will lead you right to Debs Lake.

The lake is not huge but it’s a gem of a spot. It’s teeming with fish and turtles and the trees offer some nice shade. You may forget you’re in Los Angeles!

The little lake is incredibly tranquil and it offers important habitat for birds. The park is one of the last areas of natural arroyo woodlands in Southern California.

Ernest E. Debs Regional Park is open to visitors daily, from dawn until dusk. Learn more in the park’s website. Once you’ve taken in this pretty little spot in the hills, here are some more parks in Southern California that will certainly knock your socks off!
