After the rush of the holidays is over, you may find yourself seeking out a place in Southern California where you can get outside for an afternoon adventure for some fresh air, natural beauty, and lots of peace and quiet. If this sounds like an escape you need, you'll want to look into this easy to moderate hike that will lead you to a stunning waterfall.
Located in the Santa Lucia Wilderness in San Luis Obispo County you'll find the Big Falls trailhead that will lead you on a memorable hike out into the wilderness.
Big Falls Trail can be found at 3994 Upper Lopez Canyon Rd, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.
Reaching the trailhead can be challenging depending on the current weather conditions, but once you arrive you'll be thrilled to discover this beautiful setting waiting for you.
The trail through Big Falls is fairly easy to moderate. Be prepared for a 4.5 mile hike that's accessible year-round and offers a lot of beauty along the way.
The trail will take you through a woodsy canyon along Big Falls Creek. During the fall and winter season you'll find plenty of lush green scenery to enjoy.
The trail may be a beauty, but the real treat is discovering you'll encounter two waterfalls on this trail -- the lower falls and the upper falls.
The view from the top is enough to take your breath away.
Combined, these two waterfalls offer 40-feet of cascading water that drop into a refreshing pool of water.
On a hot day, you may find people swimming and cooling off in the water. Whether you take a swim or just dip your toe in the water, you'll find this spot is just what you need when you want to get away from it all.
Prior to heading out on your hike, make sure to check road conditions and any potential fire dangers for this area. Hiking out in the forest can be extremely rewarded especially when you take the time to prepare.
