Sacramento Zoo in Northern California is making it possible to get one step closer to some of the zoo's most fascinating animals with their unique set of Behind-The-Scenes tours. There are several different types of these guided walking tours, from the popular Small Carnivores tour with meerkats and river otters to the Reptile House tour with snakes and lizards. Whichever tour you choose is bound to leave you with unforgettable memories, so read on to learn all about how you can play with animals at the zoo!
Make your next visit to Sacramento Zoo one to remember when you take them up on one of their Behind-The-Scenes tours. These tours are designed to give visitors a closer look at some of the zoo's most popular animals and it makes for an experience that's both adorable and fascinating.
The Behind-The-Scenes tour programs allow guests to not only get up close to the animals but to visit areas that are not accessible to the general public, as well. Simply put, you'll be getting an insider's look at the zoo's inner workings.
Currently, there are eight different tour options to choose from. You can view them all here. One of the newest and most exciting tours is the Small Carnivores tour which involves hanging out with meerkats and river otters. You'll even get the opportunity to toss them some snacks!
Another popular option is the Okapi tour. This tour allows you to visit with one of the zoo's newest additions: the okapi barn. During the experience, you'll come nose-to-nose with one of the okapi and hand-feed them yourself.
Other experiences include the Hooves and Horns tour, the Feathered Friends tour, and the Snow Leopard tour, in which you'll get the chance to assist in feeding one of the zoo's beautiful adult snow leopards. Prices and age eligibility vary depending on the tour.
The zoo even boasts a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure option where you work with the staff to create the zoo tour of your dreams. Simply tell them which animals you'd most like to meet and they'll try to make it happen. All they ask is for three weeks advanced notice.
