Located in Six Rivers National Forest in Del Norte County, the Hiouchi Trail is a scenic walk.

The best time to hike this trail is March through October. It’s unlikely you’ll encounter other people on this secluded hike. And leave your pup at home for this one– dogs are not allowed on the trail.

The trail begins on the northwest side of Hiouchi, on the west side of the Smith River.

The trail meanders south and then east along the river. Then, it veers off into the mountains for a short section. Be sure to follow the AllTrails map, unless you want to explore other, longer trails.

On this trail, you’ll see all sorts of mushrooms, plus towering trees and greenery that makes this forest feel like something out of a fairytale.
