The wet season may seem like a strange time to go on a hike, but we promise it's the perfect time to complete the hike to Cataract Falls near Bolinas. This popular trail is beautiful year-round, but it really comes alive during the winter and spring.

You'll find the trailhead located just off of Bolinas Fairfax Road past Alpine Lake. Immediately upon starting the trail, you'll find yourself immersed in a lush forest filled with vibrant green trees and ferns. It's simply magical!

The out-and-back trail is just over three miles long and boasts a climb of over 700-feet. The hike is rated as moderate because of the elevation gain, so prepare to stretch those legs as you make the climb. Additionally, the trail is almost entirely shaded, so be sure to dress in layers to prepare for the cooler temperatures.

The trail will then have you follow a small wooden bridge that will guide you along Cataract Creek. Along the way you'll notice smaller waterfalls and plenty of photo opportunities, so be sure to have that camera ready. This hike is just too gorgeous and you'll want to remember every moment of it.

You'll eventually end up at Laurel Dell picnic area where you can continue on just a little longer to get to the upper falls. This marks the top of the trail and you'll find that there are several great vantage points of the beautiful Cataract Falls.

Cataract Falls is absolutely stunning, especially when it boasts a good flow. The waterfall is really a long series of waterfalls and rapids which start at the Laurel Dell and spills into Alpine Lake. It's a blissful cascade that will completely mesmerize you.

Boasting endless greenery and a stunning waterfall at the end, the Cataract Falls Trail belongs on any waterfall enthusiast's bucket list. Brighten your rainy season with some of this gorgeous scenery and be sure to try this one out.
