The Iconic Hiking Trail In Northern California Is One Of The Coolest Outdoor Adventures You’ll Ever Take

Challenge yourself to this iconic hike in Yosemite Valley. The “Vernal and Nevada Falls on the Mist Trail” is one of the most popular hikes in Yosemite, and one of the best hikes in Northern California. You’ll definitely break a sweat on this 6.4-mile loop! The views from this trail are so picturesque, be sure to have your smartphone ready to snap some shots.

This trail takes hikers up a natural staircase to reveal views of two incredible waterfalls.

The powerful waterfalls will soak hikers with mist– a cooling reward after this strenuous hike.

This trail is considered challenging because it takes hikers up 2,208 feet in elevation in about four hours.

(As of writing, the staircase of the Mist Trail will be closed Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until November 2, 2023).

Frequent hikers of this trail say that the spring and summer are the best times to go.

During the spring and early summer, the falls are at their most powerful. The water run-off from the mountain snow makes the falls full and create quite the stunning scene.

No matter when you do this hike, be sure to check the weather forecast before hiking to make sure there are no major storms approaching.

Anytime you hike, be sure to go prepared, even for a short hike. But especially for challenging hikes like this one, as well as remote hikes, you want to wear proper attire.

That includes layers for changing weather conditions and hiking shoes or boots. Also, pack some drinkable water and salty snacks to replenish you on this tough hike.

Leave your dog at home for this hike, as they are not allowed on the trail.

To have a safe and fun hike, always observe the warning signs posted along the trail and don’t step over the railings.

There are a total of 32 trails that will take you to Vernal Falls. If a portion of the trail is closed, there are many other trails that bisect this trail and will take you to the falls.
