If there’s one thing we absolutely love doing in Buffalo during the summer months, it’s spending as much time outdoors as physically possible. With summer fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a hike — especially one that features a waterfall and enchanting views along the way. Yep, you read that right: you don't have to visit the tourist-ridden Niagara Falls if you want to get your waterfall fix in Buffalo. So, what are you waiting for? Grab some water, lace up those hiking boots, and explore!
Nestled just 15 miles outside of Buffalo near Amherst State Park in the heart of Williamsville, Glen Falls Trail Loop is perfect for a leisurely afternoon hike with the entire family.
Measuring in at approximately 1.4 miles, this loop trail is as easy as it is beautiful. While you can see the waterfall from the parking lot, we guarantee the views are better if you stroll along the paved trails you'll find meandering through the park.
Though Glen Falls is a mere 27-feet tall where it tumbles over the Onondaga Escarpment, its width and free-falling segments make it one of the prettiest cascades you'll find near Buffalo. Don't forget your camera!
With plenty of green space, towering trees, and blue skies, you'll want to stop to soak up the views while you listen to the soothing sound of rushing water.
Dogs are not allowed in the park, but you might see spot some wildlife during your hike. Kids will love exploring the park's natural beauty and competing to see who can spot the most birds!
Depending on the time of year, you might discover wondrous wildflowers along the trail. How pretty are these yellow blooms?
Don't worry if you can't make it to Glen Falls before winter hits — the waterfall is simply ethereal when surrounded by a blanket of snow.
If you're looking for a leisurely hike near Buffalo full of enchantment, look no further than the Glen Falls Loop Trail. It's as pretty as a postcard and easily accessible for anyone who wishes to visit.
