The Magnificent Rock Formation In Arkansas That’s Located Only .25 Miles From The Parking Lot

If you’re an avid hiker, you might prefer to go backpacking on a trail that takes you hours or days to complete. But not all of us are equipped to handle mile-long trails, some of us prefer short and sweet treks that get us to our destinations ASAP. That’s exactly what you’ll find when you hike to Dardanelle Rock, a little-known rock formation in the Arkansas River Valley. In fact, this short hiking trail in Arkansas is less than .25 miles from the parking area. Though the hike is short, the views are to die for, and you will enjoy every minute of it. You’ll need your hiking boots for this one, so be sure to wear them.

Towering above the Arkansas River just 9 miles from Lake Dardanelle State Park is a little-known natural wonder - Dardanelle Rock.

Managed by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC), this magnificent rock formation has a lot of historical significance.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, prehistoric pictographs were found on the rocks, it was used as a lookout by early settlers, and it was the site of a Civil War battle, too.

From the parking area located on Dardanelle Dam Road, the entrance to the trailhead is marked by the ANHC signage.

To get to the top of the towering rock formation, you’ll need to trek the .2-mile trail. It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

While the trail is short, it’s not the easiest trek, as you’ll need to climb over rocks and boulders as you hike.

To be on the safe side, I would suggest that you wear good hiking boots.

Once you’ve conquered the short but sweet hike, get ready for a treat…the rewards will be worth the trek.

You’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Arkansas River as well as the River Valley area.

Other views include Mount Nebo in the distance, the rolling hills of the Ozarks, the town of Russellville, as well as the Highway 7 bridge.

If you’re a rock climber, the Dardanelle Rock would be a great place to climb, too.

Pack a snack and enjoy the incredible views…
