Nature is truly the best escape, and Arizona has no shortage of it. Next time you're craving a little time in the great outdoors, look no further than Tucson Mountain Park. Rugged desert beauty abounds in this vast oasis—just what you need to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a bit, Tucson Mountain Park is the place to go.
Spanning approximately 20,000 acres, the rugged desert oasis is among the largest natural resource areas owned and managed by a local government in the U.S.
It's located within the western half of Saguaro National Park, which sits on a whopping 92,000 acres.
The park preserves native flora and fauna, including the Saguaro cactus from which its name is derived.
Approximately 62 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails weave through the mountainous landscape, varying in length and difficulty.
Whether it's a leisurely stroll or challenging uphill trek you're after, rest assured it can be found here.
Most of the trails are well marked, so you'll have no trouble finding your way.
As you can see, many of the paths intersect with one another, so choose your own adventure!
In addition to the sweeping panoramic vistas, you'll enjoy ancient history lessons.
Petroglyphs are etched into trailside rocks everywhere you look, and an old homestead remains in surprisingly good condition for its age.
While the park is open year-round, it's best not to visit in the summer to lessen your chances of getting overheated.
Even in the dead of winter, be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks to fuel your adventures.
Address: 8451 West McCain Loop, Tucson, AZ 85735.
