National Parks are the crown jewels of the U.S., and in Arizona, we have three: Saguaro, Petrified Forest, and Grand Canyon National Parks. I've been lucky enough to visit all three over the years. Facts about Picacho Peak State Park
If you didn't already know, Picacho Peak holds some historic significance. Not only did the Battle of Picacho Pass happen during the Civil War, but the peak once served as a landmark during the Anza Expedition. This picturesque state park was dedicated on May 30, 1968, and centers around the ruggedly fascinating Picacho Peak, which towers 1,500 feet above the surrounding desert. Its sharp, jagged edges were created by a volcanic flow that eroded away over time. The park started with 640 acres, but over time, additional acres were purchased, and today, there are 3,747 acres for visitors to explore.
