Arizona’s Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley Is The Southernmost Ski Destination In The U.S.

You've heard of the Arizona Snowbowl, but did you know you can go skiing in Arizona much further south? Just north of Tucson, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley is the southernmost ski destination in the continental U.S. Trade the Saguaros for snow and enjoy a winter adventure like no other!

Does this look like Tucson to you? Located over 9,000 feet above sea level, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley trades Saguaros and dusty desert roads for a wonderland of snow.

Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley is the southernmost ski destination in the continental United States. Yet another of Arizona's many claims to fame!

The summit of Mount Lemmon receives around 180 inches of snow each year, usually between mid-December and April.

Unlike most ski destinations, Mount Lemmon Ski Valley has a relatively mild climate. Temperatures range from 20 to 50 degrees, so no need to bundle up excessively.

With 200 acres of skiable terrain, the park features 22 trails.

Roughly 20% of the trails are bunny slopes, 38% intermediate hills, and 42% advanced and expert runs. The longest run is 8,500 feet.

There are two lifts: one surface tow and two double chairs.

With an uphill capacity of 2,000 skiers per hour, the lifts definitely pull their weight. There's room for everyone on the mountain!

Which trail would you conquer first?

Skiing works up a hearty appetite, so it's a good thing there's a full-service restaurant on-site.

The Iron Door has a menu that's as vast as it is varied, featuring everything from chili to sandwiches to mouthwatering desserts. Beverages like hot cocoa and hot spiced cider (or wine) with orange slices and cinnamon sticks promise to warm your belly after a full day out on the slopes.

Mount Lemmon Ski Valley isn't only open during the winter. In the warmer months, you can still enjoy a scenic ride on the chairlifts!

The ride is about 30 minutes long, taking you up the slopes to the mountaintop. It's such a unique and relaxing way to take in the gorgeous surroundings, and you'll never forget the experience.

The slopes and restaurant are open from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on weekends (conditions permitting.) Road closures on and near the mountain are commonplace in the winter, especially after periods of heavy snowfall.
